The Reverend Deirdre Greenwood White began her pastorate at the Annisquam Village Church as the church’s Settled Pastor on October 1, 2009. This is her fourth call, as she has previously served as interim pastor for three churches in New Jersey. Rev. White was ordained to the Ministry of Word and Sacrament by Elizabeth Presbytery in the Presbyterian Church (U.S.A.) in 2003.

She is active in the Gloucester community through her service as Chaplain to the Gloucester Fire Dept., the Board of the Cape Ann YMCA, and the Interfaith Clergy Council.

A “second career” pastor, Rev. White arrived at Princeton Theological Seminary in July 1999 to begin the Master of Divinity degree, having previously spent 14 years in corporate finance in New York City. It was a “leap of faith,” but one she has never regretted. Since her graduation in 2002, Deirdre has served as a pastor, chaplain and retreat leader. After her first pastorate, Deirdre returned to Princeton to pursue Ph. D. Studies in Pastoral Theology.

Rev. White grew up (mostly) in Dutchess County, NY where her father, a native Bostonian, worked with I.B.M. Her mother, a native of Northern Ontario, was a teacher and assistant principal at the local elementary school. Deirdre was baptized in the United Church of Canada and was raised in the Presbyterian Church, where she was especially active in choirs and other music programs. After high school, she attended Smith College and graduated with a history major and English literature minor and moved to Boston, seeking fame and fortune as a writer. Gradually becoming more practical, Deirdre completed an M.B.A. at the Simmons Graduate School of Management and moved to New York City to begin her first career.

Rev. White's husband, the Rev. Richard H. White, recently retired as Chaplain and Director of Religious Ministries for the University Medical Center in Princeton.  Her son Christopher Hudson graduated from the College of Wooster in May 2012 and is serving with Americorps NCCC based in Denver.

Rev. White’s life and ministry is grounded in the Reformed tradition. Her faith is in the Triune God, the God who delivered Israel out of Egypt, who spoke through the prophets, and was revealed through the life and work of Jesus Christ, and remains active in the world through the power of the Holy Spirit as it works through all of us. Faith demands a balance of both contemplation and action, for neither is sufficient without the other. She affirms the Church’s mission to be a community called to gladly attend to the poor, the homeless, those on the margins and to be the voice of the voiceless.
