Annisquam Village Church
The Adult Choir leads the congregation in hymns and liturgy from the Gallery at Sunday services from September to June. The choir rehearses Wednesdays, 7-8:30 p.m. and on Sundays at 9 a.m. (before the 10:00 service). Comprising both experienced singers and others eager to learn and improve their musical skills, the choir has openings for all parts: soprano, alto, tenor and bass (baritone). Several seasoned, excellent readers encourage newer singers and all are welcome to join this devoted and enthusiastic group. Audition is not necessary, but may be helpful in determining one’s voice part or best placement in the choir.
The church’s choir for children was established in 1984. The Schola takes an active part in the liturgy while learning a wide variety of music, sourced from chant, folk music, and formal compositions both antique and modern. Rehearsals are Monday's 4:30-5:30 p.m. Our Easter Tableau Vivant at Squam Rock was developed by the Schola Cantorum and creates a very special context for youthful imaginations and talents. The Schola also participates fully in the yearly Lessons & Carols service during Advent and the Pageant afterwards. The children enjoy the fellowship of three other Cape Ann youth choirs, performing together during the Advent season and at an annual spring concert. In 2010 they premiered Robert Bradshaw’s newly composed ‘Pie Jesu’ at the Shalin Liu Performing Arts Center in Rockport. All children aged 7 and up can become part of this choir, learning and sharing in the life of the church while broadening their musical knowledge and enjoyment. Join a choir! Make a joyful noise! Learn to sing!
